COMO, Texas — Paul E. Lawrence Sr., 72, of Como, passed away Saturday evening, Jan. 5, 2013, at Carriage House Manor.
He was born March 2, 1940, in Sunbury, Pa., a son of the late Robert H. and Mildred (Kline) Lawrence.
He was a 1957 graduate of Sunbury High School and joined the Air Force, serving as a jet engine mechanic. He met and married Jann Huckaby on Sept. 12, 1958, while stationed at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene.
After his military service, he worked as an aircraft electrician for Ling-Temco and was in the dairy business for more than 30 years. He also served as a Hopkins County constable.
He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, a member of the Freemasons and a devoted volunteer to his community.
In addition to his wife of 54 years, he is survived by his children and their spouses, Paul Jr. and Jane Lawrence, of West Chester, Pa., David and Jan Lawrence, of Muleshoe, Texas, Steve Lawrence, of New Castle, Pa., and Cynthia and Joel Sample, of Lindale. “Grandaddy” also is survived by 10 grandchildren, Michael Lawrence, Dr. Danny Lawrence, Abby Kirby, Jacy Henrich, Alyssa Lawrence, Andi Lawrence, Britney Caldwell, Jandi Lawrence, Lauren Sample and Garrett Sample; six great-grandchildren, Landri Lawrence, Sam Lawrence, Kobi Kirby, Raegan Kirby, Hallie Lawrence and Trace Caldwell; six siblings, Robert Lawrence, Raymond Lawrence, Jerry Lawrence and Terry Lawrence, all of Sunbury, Alice Dryer, of Elysburg, Pa., and Carol Bradigan, of Dornsife, Pa; and a brother-in-law, Don Smith, of Dallas.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Jay Lawrence, and one grandson, Jason Lawrence.
The funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in Como United Methodist Church with the Rev. Beverly Olson and the Rev. Henry Suche officiating.
A military graveside service, under the direction of the Hopkins County Military Coalition, will follow in Como Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home, 419 Gilmer St., Sulphur Springs, Texas.
