LEWISBURG — Margaret J. Adams, 95, of Lewisburg, formerly of Sunbury, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
Margaret was born Oct. 30, 1917, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Howard T. and Verna E. (Dockey) Williams. On Aug. 14, 1941, she married the Rev. Leon E. Adams, who preceded her in death on June 5, 1965.
Margaret was a 1936 graduate of Coal Township High School.
Margaret moved back to Sunbury and was employed by First National Bank in the Consumer Credit Department for 14 years. She retired Feb. 1, 1980.
She was a member of Albright United Methodist Church, now Faith United Methodist, and served as a Sunday school teacher, was president of the Albright Women for 10 years, in the choir for 21 years, served on the church council and was lay delegate to the Central Pennsylvania Conference and several committees. She was a life member of the Lewisburg United Methodist Homes Auxiliary, serving as president of the board of directors for two years and for many years on the auxiliary executive board. She was a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference of the United Methodist Church and Retirees Association of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference, the National A.A.R.P. and the Senior Citizens Organization of Sunbury.
She and her husband served in churches in Tamaqua, Coaldale, Palmerton, Reading/Ebenezer, Albright in Sunbury and St. Paul’s in Mount Carmel.
Margaret is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. and Lisa Adams, of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Brian, Maria Lynn, Melissa and Kimberly; four great-grandchildren, Traci, Sean, Ashley and Liberty; one great-great-grandson, Brennan; one sister, Anna E. Hoffman, of Versailles, Ky.; one brother, Paul T. Williams, of Shamokin; seven nephews; and four nieces.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Ellen Snyder, and one brother, Robert H. Williams.
There will be no viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Oddfellows Cemetery, Trevorton.
