SELINSGROVE — James Alan Keiser, 76, formerly of Selinsgrove, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, at Bethany Village, Mechanicsburg.
He was a son of the late Lot B. and Agnes (Brouse) Keiser, of Selinsgrove, and also was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Keiser.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy (Reitz) Keiser, formerly of Winfield; three daughters, Beth (Keiser) Borowski and husband Vic, of Annandale, Va., Ann Keiser and husband Robert Anderson, of Mechanicsburg, and Dawn Keiser of Elkins, W.Va.; and grandchildren, Lara, Alex, Lukas, Nathan, Piper, Michael, Tennyson and Grace. He also is survived by one sister, Helen Keiser, of Selinsgrove, and one brother, Ronald Keiser and his wife, Dorothy (Badger) Keiser, of Haymarket, Va.
Jim was active in many sports, including softball, basketball, tennis, racquetball and golf, and he played football for Susquehanna University while obtaining a bachelor of science degree. After graduating in 1958, Jim began a 22-year career in the Navy, retiring from the military in 1980 as a lieutenant commander. As a civilian, he continued his career in the Washington, D.C., area, working in the administrative offices of Western Union, eventually retiring in 1998.
He was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed traveling to University Park for games, watching more than 20 seasons of football at Beaver Stadium. Jim had learned carpentry from his father and enjoyed working with his hands and in the garden. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.
A memorial service will be held for Jim at 11 a.m. Saturday in Bethany Village East Chapel, 325 Wesley Drive, Mechanicsburg, followed by a light meal.
