LEWISBURG — Irene M. Ammon, 83, of 1729 W. Market St., and a resident at RiverWoods, Lewisburg, passed away Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.
She was born July 8, 1929, in Snyder County, a daughter of the late Foster J. Sr. and Hazel L. (Herman) Klingler. On Sept. 20, 1952, she married Harry E. Ammon Sr. in Zion Lutheran Church, Kratzerville. Together they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
Irene was a 1946 graduate of Selinsgrove High School.
Early in life she worked at Champ Hats, Walkers Jewelry and Westinghouse, all in Sunbury. Irene always put everyone else ahead of her self. She was a caregiver to her mother and many of her friends.
She was a member of Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lewisburg, where she participated in the church altar guild and church council and was a Sunday school teacher.
A “professional” volunteer, Irene spent her time helping at the Red Cross, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed quilting and was a quality seamstress. Irene loved children and was an ideal mother, wife, sister and grandmother.
Surviving in addition to her husband are one son and daughter-in-law, Harry E. Jr. and Sherelyn Ammon, of Reading; two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara I. and William Hauck, of Mifflinburg and Wendy L. and David Testa, of Purcellville, Va.; two brothers and one sister-in-law, John S. Klingler, of New Berlin and Foster J. Jr. and June Klingler, of Carrollton, Texas; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Marian and Richard Jarrett, of Lewisburg, Jean P. Klingler, of Newville and Louise and James Reep, of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Keith, Kevin and Kyle Hauck, Kaitlin and Hillary Ammon and Benjamin and Daniel Testa; one great-granddaughter, Violet Irene Hauck; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Leitzel and Anna Klingler.
She was predeceased by one son, Barb’s twin, William Harry Ammon; one daughter, Nancy Lee Ammon; two brothers, Leroy Leitzel and Richard Klingler; and one sister, Betty Klingler.
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 11 with the Rev. Alice Rauch, chaplain at RiverWoods, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to Christ’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 S. Third St., Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to the American Red Cross, SUN Area Chapter, 249 Farley Circle, Lewisburg, PA 17837, or to a charity of ones choice.
