HUMMELS WHARF — Napoleon B. “Ned” Host, 81, of North Old Trail, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at his home.
Ned was born Aug. 4, 1931, in Burnham, a son of the late Leon Dewey and Rosie Mae (Mansbarger) Host. On July 29, 1956, he married the former Virginia A. Logan who survives.
He attended Burnham High School and on May 22, 1951 he enlisted with the Navy, serving during the Korean War until his honorable discharge on May 20, 1955.
Ned was a truck driver/route salesman for Butterkrust Bakery, Sunbury where he retired after many years of dedicated service.
He attended Christ Community United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons and Tall Cedars and a volunteer at R.B. Winter State Park, Mifflinburg as a campground host.
Ned was a jack of all trades who was called upon to fix anything by his family. He loved camping, working outside and bird watching with his wife, Virginia. He also loved a buffet where he got his money’s worth in the dessert section.
In addition to his wife of 56 years, he is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Ned A. Host, of Northumberland, James L. Host, of Lancaster, and Andrew L. and Jayme K. Host, of Lewisburg; three daughters and sons-in-law, Teresa A. and Lamont E. Heim Jr., of Sunbury, Susan K. and Tim W. Smith, of Middleburg, and Nancy B. and Tim M. Brouse, of Shamokin Dam; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruth McNitt, of Burnham and Nancy B. and Bill Carter, of Lewistown.
He was preceded in death by one son, John C. Host; and three sisters, Betty Naylor, Gertie Bedelyon and one in infancy.
Services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ned’s memory may be to Christ Community United Methodist Church, Missions, 3939 Park Road, Selinsgrove, PA 17870, or to Geisinger Hospice, 100 N. Academy Ave., Danville, PA 17822.
Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
