Gabriel Elias “Jakey” Kieffer, 83, Shamokin

SHAMOKIN — Gabriel Elias “Jakey” Kieffer, 83, of 505 N. Sixth St., passed away Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, at his home.

He was born Oct. 4, 1929, in RR Herndon, the son of the late Oscar Elias and Leah Harriet (Hilbush) Kieffer. He was first married to Marjorie (Aaron) Kieffer, who preceded him in death. Gabriel remarried on Oct. 12, 2002, in Shamokin to the former Sandra Fessler, who survives.

Gabriel formerly lived in Exton, and after retirement, he moved to Dornsife and Shamokin for the past 10 years.

He began his education in a one-room schoolhouse in Dornsife and then attended Trevorton schools. He proudly received his GED and completed numerous continuing education classes while working with Mack Trucks Inc. He was inducted into the Army in March 1951 and served in Germany during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a sergeant into the Army Reserves and was honorably discharged in March 1957.

Gabriel was employed as a service engineer for Mack Trucks Inc., Allentown.

He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Red Cross, and served on the church council and was past secretary of the cemetery association. He was a former active member of the Dalmatia Kiwanis Club, and an honorary member at his passing, and served as Kiwanis president for four years. In 2001, he was named Kiwanian of the Year, He was a member of Sunbury Lodge 22, Free & Accepted Masons, Sunbury, had served as chaplain for Forest 65, Tall Cedars of Lebanon, was past commander of Trevorton American Legion Post 92 and a member of the Trevorton East End Rod and Gun Club, Weikert, and the Union County Sportsmen’s Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mark Trickel, of Exton; two nephews and their spouses, Richard and Nancy Seachrist and Neil and Ashley Fessler; two nieces and a spouse, Trudi (Seachrist) and Mike Webb, and Nadine Fesser; two great-nephews and a spouse, Todd and Jan Webb and Stephen Webb; three great-great-nephews, Elias Webb and twins Mason and Noah Fessler; one great-niece, Leah Seachrist; and one great-great-niece, Cassidy Webb.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Seachrist.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Red Cross, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, with a Masonic service at 10:30, with the Rev. Glen B. Keidel Jr. officiating.

Burial will be in the Herndon Cemetery.

Contributions may be made in Gabriel’s memory to the Veterans Memorial Fund, c/o Trevorton American Legion, 523 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, PA 17881.

Funeral arrangements are by the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton.
