Nicholas Macko, 93, Belle Vernon

BELLE VERNON — Nicholas Macko, 93, formerly of 376 Pear Ave., Belle Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at Sunbury Community Hospital. He most recently lived at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

He was born Aug. 14, 1919, in Monessen. He was married to the former Mary Thompson, who preceded him in death in 2001.

Nick served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the Belle Vernon American Legion.

He was employed as a crane man/steel worker for 43 years in the Monessen plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel.

Nick enjoyed his dogs, working in the garden, tending to his fruit trees and handyman projects. He was involved in his church and was always willing to help out his family, friends and neighbors.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Patricia Macko, of Danville, and William and Mary Macko, of The Villages, Fla.; five grandchildren, Jason, Nichole, Bill, Diane and Linda; and five great-grandchildren.

Friends and family will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Rhome Funeral Home, 1209 Grand Blvd., Monessen, followed by the funeral on Saturday with the Rev. Conrad Auel, of First Christian Church, Monessen, officiating.

Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.
