WATSONTOWN — MePush Inc., of Lewisburg, and Minuteman Environmental Inc., of Milton, were among Valley businesses honored Thursday at the Central Pennsylvania Chamber of Commerce’s annual meeting and awards ceremony.
About 180 regional business, government, education and media people gathered at the Watson Inn for the event, which recognizes the contributions of individual and business members, as well as the coming and going of board members.
MePush won the Small Business of the Year award for 2012, and Minuteman won the Business of the Year.
Also recognized were:
n Neal Fogle, of the Penn State Cooperative Extension, received the Business & Education Award. Fogle is an Extension educator at the Snyder County Cooperative Extension office.
n Christine Foust and Shirley Nelson Brough were named Volunteers of the Year.
n Kelly O’Brien Gavin, director of the Greater Susquehanna Keystone Innovation Zone, won the President’s Award, which honors individual contributions to the organization.
Maria Culp, president and chief executive officer of the chamber, recognized Steven Beattie, of Larson Design Group, who will leave his spot as board chairman.
Also recognized were retiring board members: Stacy Butler, of State Farm Insurance, Justin Dunkelberger, of Homerite Green of Northeast Pennsylvania, Michael Redding, of Evangelical Community Hospital, Maureen Hauck, of Bucknell University’s Small Business Development Center, and Jerilyn Keen Katherman, of Pennsylvania Treatment & Healing.
Lisa McManus, of Larson, is the new board chair, and she welcomed new members: Francis “Bucky” Allis, a retired bank executive; John Kurelja, superintendent of the Warrior Run School District; Brad Lawton, insurance agent and president of Lawton Insurance Agency Inc.; Karen Metz, president of Keystone Mobile Shredding Inc.; Todd Ross, president of T-Ross Bros. Construction Inc.; and Brooks Stahlnecker, president of the Stahlnecker Group.

Milton school directors approve budget and tax increase
MILTON - The Milton Area School District’s final 2013-14 budget was approved Tuesday and includes a tax increase of 1.31 mills, or 2.4 percent, in Northumberland County and .41 mills, or 3.6 percent, in Union County.
