NEW BERLIN — Students from SUN Area Technical Institute, Columbia-Montour AVTS, Northumberland County Career and Technology Center, Northern Tier Career Center, Central Mountain High School, Lycoming County Career Center, North and South Schuylkill Training Centers, Wellsboro and Williamsport High School recently competed in Pennsylvania District VI Skills USA Competitions.
SkillsUSA is a national student organization for students enrolled in trade, industrial, technical and health occupations educational programs. The students competed in both skill and leadership competitive events for the purpose of selecting those individuals who will advance to the state level.
First place Skill winners from SUN Area Technical Institute were: Automotive Refinishing, Tyler Spear; Carpentry, Logan Trego; Collision Repair Technology, Levi Cross; Esthetics, Ashley Wilson and her model Alicia Boutin; Extemporaneous Speaking, Claudia Pehowic; Prepared Speaking, Paige Feltman; Job Skill Demonstration A, Miriana Mangiapane; Action Skill, Amanda Torres; Welding, Robert Girvin; Cosmetology, Kiersten Dauberman; HVAC, Dakota Eberhart; Industrial Motor Control, Patrick Thomas; Restaurant Service, Heather Bowersox; Team Works, Matthew Zerbe, Cody Kremser, Andrew Stahl, Ethan Witmer; Residential Wiring, Robert Zimmerman; Post-Seconday Masonry, Adam Klase.
Second place winners from SUN included: Criminal Justice, Anastasia Kitchens; Crime Scene Investigation, Tyriq Dorman, Rebecca Lilley, Brandon Lindenmuth; Automated Manufacturing, Andrew Gemberling, James Radel, Parker Derr; Computer Maintenance, Zachary Diehl; Precision Machining; Aaron Bolig; Electronics, Nick Bachorski; Diesel Technology, Spencer Raup
Third place winner was Nicholas Mast, Diesel Technology.
Other participants at the district level included: Cole Smith, Culinary Arts; Laura Straub, Commercial Baking; Nicholas Young, Job Interview; and Dustin Mertz, Masonry
Receiving byes to the state competition are Kayla Dunkle and her model Brandi Hollenbach, in Nail Care; Jeffrey Fetterof, in Painting and Decorating; Andrew Brady, Internetworking; and Andrew Martin, Welding Sculpture.
All first place medal winners will advance to compete at the state level. The Pennsylvania SkillsUSA Leadership and Skill Conference will be held in Hershey on April 3-53.
