MIFFLINBURG — Every year, Snyder Union Mifflin Child Development (SUMCD) receives donations of toys, books, clothing, etc. during the holidays, to give to children and families served by the agency’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Families are provided the opportunity to take part in the “angel tree” or “hug-a-family” event and make suggestions regarding items that their children need or would like to receive. All children in the family are “eligible,” not just those in SUMCD programs.
This year was no different, and SUMCD would like to recognize the generosity of many local businesses and groups who took part in the event: M&T Bank, Mifflinburg; Selinsgrove Area High School, Messiah Lutheran Church, Troxelville; Three Rivers Union Church, Beaver Springs; Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA-Troup D-3, and the Fighting Dragons Relay for Life Team, Lewisburg. In addition to these groups, many SUMCD staff and their family members donated gifts and clothing.
SUMCD received many thank you letters and cards from parents sharing their appreciation and how the holidays were made extra special. “My grandson was so funny. On Christmas when he opened those shoes, he had to put them on right way and each day after for a couple of days.”
SUM Child Development provides child care and preschool/early childhood education services to children and families in Snyder, Union and Mifflin counties. Visit www.sumcd.org for more information about the agency and various programs, or contact them at 966-2845.
