MIFFLINBURG -- Four Mifflinburg Intermediate School students have recently been tapped to receive the Kiwanis-sponsored ASPIRE award for the month of January. This award is recognition that these students are upholding anti-bullying traits such as respecting differences among others, including all, possessing a positive attitude and accepting responsibility for their actions. The students are chosen by their homeroom teachers and each will receive a certificate and cash award at the school’s end-of-the-year assembly.
Lane Yoder, a third grader in Mrs. Ender’s room, is the son of Kendra and Mark Yoder. His favorite subject is math. He collects baseball cards and is active in many sports, playing football for the Redskins, baseball for the Cubs, soccer and basketball. He hopes to someday become a professional football player.
In Mr. Underkoffler’s fourth grade, Clayton Miller, son of Amy and Bob Miller, is being recognized. His favorite subject is math. He collects Legos and enjoys baseball. His hope is to become a game warden.
Jared Moyer, son of Amy and Neil Moyer, is a student in Mr. Moyer’s fifth grade. His favorite subject is math. He enjoys showing pigs and farming. He is active in 4-H, and plays for the New Berlin baseball team. He would like to become a professional baseball player.
Also a fifth grader in Mrs. Hoffman’s class, is Dennis Camp. He is the son of Patty and Duane “Bump” Camp, of Millmont. His favorite subject is gym and he likes to play with Legos. He belongs to his church youth group and hopes to become a fireman.

HARRISBURG – The State Board of Education today voted to adopt final-form regulations to amend the Pennsylvania Education Code, putting into place the Pennsylvania Common Core Standards that requires students to demonstrate proficiency on a Keystone Exam or comparable exam in order to graduate high school.
