MIFFLINBURG -- The Mifflinburg Intermediate School announces its selections for the Lions Club Award for Student of the Month for January. Teachers select students who are respectful, hard-working and positive leaders in their classrooms. At the awards assembly at the end of the school year, each recipient will receive a certificate, cash prize, and Lions Club memento from the Millmont West Union Area Lions Club, the sponsor of the Student of the Month Award.
Remi Stahl, third grade, is a daughter of Ryon and Jamie Stahl, of Mifflinburg. In school her favorite subject is math. She enjoys playing soccer and likes to play with her sister. In the future, Remi would like to work in an animal rescue center.
Thomas Wagner, fourth Grade, is the son of Eric and Patty Wagner, of Mifflinburg. He enjoys playing baseball and bowling. Thomas likes to play computer games and likes to spend time with his family. In the future, he would like to build bridges and tunnels.
Ashtyn Wray, fourth grade, is the daughter of Melissa and Jeremy Wray, of New Berlin. Spelling is her favorite subject in school. She enjoys gymnastics, playing outside, climbing trees and spending time with her family. In the future, Ashtyn would like to be an engineer.
Erica Hauger, fifth grade, is a daughter of Monica and Tony Hauger, of Lewisburg. In school, her favorite class is math, and she is a member of the school band, chorus, and the Art Club. She enjoys bowling and watching gymnastics, playing outside and with her siblings. In the future, Erica would like to be an animal rescuer.

HARRISBURG – The State Board of Education today voted to adopt final-form regulations to amend the Pennsylvania Education Code, putting into place the Pennsylvania Common Core Standards that requires students to demonstrate proficiency on a Keystone Exam or comparable exam in order to graduate high school.
