MIDDLEBURG -- The Midd-West High School Students of the Month for December have been announced.
Tyler Martin, eithth grade, is the son of Merv and Arlene Martin, of Middleburg. In school, Tyler enjoys soccer and being part of the Ice Hockey Club. In his spare time he enjoys hunting, baseball and soccer. His future plans include working on his family farm.
Janell Boonie, ninth grade, is the daughter of Fredrick and Maria Boonie, of Middleburg. Janell is involved in concert band and the Free Reading Club while in school and enjoys playing the flute, art, listening to music and writing in her free time. Her future plans include attending SUN Tech and possibly becoming a massage therapist.
Kaitlin Schell, 10th grade, is the daughter of Roger and Sylvia Schell, of Middleburg. She enjoys Ski Club, Field Hockey Club, National Honor Society and the Midd-West Leadership Council while in school. Out of school she enjoys playing field hockey, reading, skiing and spending time with her friends and family. She is planning on attending college for nursing.
Cheyenne Blackwell, 11th grade, is the daughter of Frank and Dodie Blackwell, of Middleburg. In school she is involved in FFA. Her hobbies include hunting, spending time outdoors and with her family and friends. She is planning on attending SUN Tech for the health professions program.
Jacob Keister, 12th grade, is the son of Alan and Sheri Keister, of Middleburg. He is involved in soccer and track and field. In his spare time he enjoys soccer, fishing and hockey. His future plans include attending Lycoming College and majoring in criminal justice.

HARRSIBURG -- The state Department of Education has extended the deadline to get into “In Lincoln’s Footsteps,” a speech contest that will award the high-school winner a $5,000 scholarship, among other prizes.
