PENNS CREEK — Eight high school students from Penn View Christian Academy recently traveled to Harrisburg to participate in an All-State Choir seminar and concert. The choir, sponsored by the Keystone Christian Education Association, was held on Nov. 15-17.
The students from Penn View Christian Academy who participated include Monique Freer, of Middleburg, Breanna McCarty, of Richfield, Kaitlin Rine, of Penns Creek, Kirsten Gingerich, of Mifflinburg, Casey Forney, of Lykens, Dustin Durkee, of Gratz, Darren Durkee, of Gratz, and Caleb Black, of Penns Creek.
Students in grades 9-12 had to be screened and nominated by the local school administration and music faculty. Subsequently each nominated student auditioned for the Keystone organization. Approximately 140 students participated from schools across Pennsylvania and represented Christian schools from every geographic region of the state.
This year’s guest conductor was Richard Shelburne, minister of music at First Baptist Church of Land O’ Lakes in Florida. This year’s guest accompanist, Dr. Craig Ralston, has been a long-time friend with Shelburne since they met at Bob Jones University.
The young people joined voices in singing 11 religious, classical, and Christmas works. Their final concerts were performed in the capitol rotunda at Harrisburg on Nov. 17.
