MIDDLEBURG — A bingo game to raise money for a former Midd-West student’s memorial fund attracted 75 players Sunday.
The games were held in the Midd-West High School cafeteria.
The event was the graduation project of Midd-West juniors Madison Hokenbrough and Kassondera Walters. Money raised went to the Brandon Bittner Memorial Scholarship fund, named in honor of Brandon Bittner, a Midd-West student who committed suicide in 2010.
Friends said Brandon, 14, was sick of being bullied.
“He was a close friend of mine and Kassondera’s,” Madison said.
Total funds raised had not been counted as of Sunday night, she said.
Admission was $20 for advance tickets and $25 for tickets at the door.
Doors opened at 12:30 p.m. and after 20 games, the event ended at 5 p.m. Numerous prizes were given out, including 27 door prizes.
The Brandon Bittner Memorial Scholarship Fund is for student musicians planning to attend Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove. Brandon was an accomplished violin player.
“It’s for people who are very dedicated to music, just like Brandon was,” Madison said. “It helps keep his memory alive since that’s what he wanted to do.”
