MILLERSBURG — Borough Council members are putting together an ad hoc committee intended to review their rental ordinance and property maintenance code.
“Right now, we are trying to decide what kind of qualifiers are necessary to be on the committee,” council President Christopher Dietz reported from Wednesday night’s meeting. “Our borough border is like a jigsaw puzzle, and the lines are shared with Upper Paxton Township. So we want to make sure that the township is represented on the committee.”
Dietz said he’d like to see representatives of the borough, landlords and tenants on the panel.
In other business, Dietz said the borough is considering an offer to join with other regional police departments as part of a website built by the Dauphin County district attorney. “We’re thinking about it,” he said. “But we still have some things we need to talk to them about.”
Members also discussed the Riverfront Park Gateway to the Lykens Valley Rail Trail project. “The project is proceeding nicely,” Dietz said Thursday. The borough has secured more than $200,000 so far toward completing the project, which consists of a trail spanning the length of the park.
The riverfront project began to take shape in 2007 and 2008 when Millersburg created a master parks plan. The trail and restroom-concession stand emerged as priority projects in the plan.
Millersburg received grants for the trail and building from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources’ Community Conservation Partnership Program, Dauphin County Local Municipal Share Grant Program, the Foundation for Enhancing Communities, the Paul A. Troutman Foundation and the Tour de Millersburg.
