LEWISBURG — The SUN Area Chapter of the American Red Cross will continue to sell and deliver their hand-made hoagies five times a year in support of the Red Cross Mission. Volunteers are always needed to help at the sales, to make the sandwiches and also to deliver them to local businesses in the Snyder, Union, Northumberland county areas. “This effort takes a team of about 30 individuals who are willing to rise very early and stand for a few hours making the sandwiches,” said Annie Smith who coordinates the sales. “We have this down to a fine art, but always need more help,’’ she added.
Volunteers can make the hoagies, take orders or deliver them. The team meets at 6 a.m. on the day of the sale at their new location; Faith Lutheran Church, along Route 45 in Lewisburg. “Volunteers should wear old clothes as the onion odor will permeate everything,” said Smith. “This is a good project for students who can help, then get to school by 8 a.m. and also for civic groups seeking ways to be involved in their communities,” she added.
