15th Annual Chocolate Lover's Festival

LEWISBURG — One of  the highlights of the winter and the Heart of Lewisburg Ice Festival, the 15th Annual Chocolate Lover’s Festival will again be held this year in the ballroom of the Lewisburg Hotel on Feb. 2 from 7 to 10 p.m. This popular event is the largest fund raiser for the Donald L. Heiter Community Center in Lewisburg and this year’s festival promises to be the best one ever.

The Chocolate Lovers’ Fantasy Festival will offer savory hors d’ oeuvres, a cash bar, and of course, delectable chocolate samplings until your palate is content. It will feature an amateur chocolate competition, professional dessert display, appetizers, cash bar, music a raffle, and a live auction where chocolate lovers can bid on prizes such as framed local art, tickets to the Weis Center for the performing arts 2013-14 season, two season tickets to Bucknell men’s basketball, a catered gourmet home made pizza party, a private class for six to create a patio planter and more, according to Jane Amacher, chairperson of the event.

With admission limited to 160 adults, tickets can only be purchased online at www.donaldheiter.org. To accommodate those couples with young children, the Heiter Center, located just a couple of blocks away from the Lewisburg Hotel at 100 N. Fifth St., is having a “Cocoa Fest”, the chocolate festival for kids ages 5-13, from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. Chocolate Festival tickets for adults are $30 and the Cocoa Fest tickets are $5 for kids ages 5-13 with the purchase of an adult Chocolate Festival ticket and $10 without the purchase of an adult ticket.

Raffle tickets are also available at a cost of $10 each or three for $25. Raffle ticket holders need not be present to win one of the many prizes that have been donated. Raffle ticket prizes include; a 14k Filigree & Diamond Leaf gold pendant, a Keurig Brewing System, a mountain bike, a $500 cash prize, a Nook Tablet, and tickets to this year’s US Open Golf Championship in Philadelphia.

Entries for the amateur competition are needed, according to Polly Doyle, a member of the planning committee. Doyle says there are four entry categories: cakes, candies, pastries/desserts and aavory. She says that the entries will be judged on originality, presentation, taste and the use of chocolate (dark, milk or white). Each entry should be large enough to provide 20-30 bite size portions. Winners do not need to be present to win. Doyle says to register for the amateur competition, interested contestants should contact the center or email Doyle at pdolye@bucknell.edu.
