LEWISBURG — The Union County Library System is excited to announce the launch of Discover, a new early literacy program for children up to age five and their parents.
The Discover program includes theme-based sessions that feature activities to enhance alphabet knowledge, phonetic awareness, and number, color, and shape recognition. Additional benefits of participation include following directions, interacting with other children, being patient and respectful, listening comprehension, vocabulary development, visual processing, and grammar.
Discover also introduces parents to simple activities that can help their child with reading and preparing for school, while exploring books together. Parents are encouraged to continue the learning process with take-home materials including coloring pages, songs, and activities they can do with their child.
Discover will be held at each of the three libraries in the Union County Library System — Herr Memorial Library, Mifflinburg; The Public Library for Union County, Lewisburg; and West End Library, Laurelton. For dates and times, visit www.unioncountylibrarysystem.com and click on the Events, Programs and Classes tab. Children will be enrolled in an appropriate Discover level that matches their age and a parent or caregiver must accompany children to the program.
For more information, contact your local UCLS library by calling 966-0831 for Herr Library; 523-1172 for The Public Library for Union County; and 922-4773 for West End Library.
