LEWISBURG — Fire and police services were among a buffet of issues served up at the East Buffalo Township supervisors meeting Monday night.
William Cameron Engine Company continues to put a good foot forward with township officials, with Chief Stephen Bolinsky again attending the monthly meeting for a briefing.
The township soon will determine how to continue with the Lewisburg fire house; the current contract for services is up June 30.
Bolinsky told supervisors William Cameron has two more deputy chiefs: Richard Bennett and Mark Corollo, both longtime members and previous deputies.
The move was “important for continuity,” Bolinsky said, as William Cameron moves forward with reorganizing. For instance, next month he expects the first draft of new fire company bylaws to be ready and for a community advisory council to take shape.
The council would consist of a representative from each of the five municipalities that use William Cameron’s services: Lewisburg borough and Buffalo, East Buffalo, Kelly and part of West Chillisquaque Township.
Supervisor Henry Baylor Jr. commended Bolinsky and William Cameron for what they’ve done so far but said he’d like to see more fundraising efforts, which not only would provide needed capital but also allow for more community interaction.
“The goal of service first is excellent,” Baylor said, “but you must also have funds.” Collective bargaining negotiations also continue with the paid side of the fire company, Bolinsky said.
It’s been a busy year so far for Buffalo Valley Regional Police Department, as Chief Paul Yost reported officers responded to 245 calls in January resulting in 34 cases and 17 arrests.
Chairman Supervisor James Buck commended Yost and officers for their quick response to a recent incident of a man stalking then pulling a gun on two female Bucknell University students and noted how often the police are helping other law enforcement in the region.
Supervisor Thomas Zorn was absent from the meeting.
