SUNBURY —
NEW BERLIN — A three-day Yoga Breathing (Pranayama) Workshop will be offered at the Integral Yoga Center this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Students will explore the relationship between breathing and prana (life force); experience the power of breathing and prana both in the Hatha Yoga and meditation poses; examine goals for practice, sort out deeper motivations and take a look at pitfalls along the way as well as discover how to perfect yoga breathing practices.
Yoga breathing makes for dramatically increased energy, powerful digestion, nerves of steel and a balanced mind. It helps to eliminate toxins from the body, purifying the blood, thus improving resistance to infections or disease; it brings relief to asthmatics and also relaxes skeletal muscles.
The workshop will be taught by Bhaktan Eberle, one of the leading Pranayama teachers at Satchidananda Ashram in Virginia. He became an Integral Yoga teacher in 1973, and through pranayama was completely healed of very serious back problems.
Here is the schedule for classes at the center, 428 Market St., New Berlin:
n 7:30 to 9 p.m. Friday: Pranayama Session ~ What is yoga? What is prana? What is pranayama? Practice: Deep Breathing (Deergha Swasam), deep relaxation
n 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday: Pranayama Session ~ How to develop a regular practice without conventional self-discipline. Practice: Rapid breathing: (Kapalabhati, Bhastrika)
n 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday: Pranayama Session — Energy blockages and leaks; spiritual experiences. Practice: alternate nostril breathing (Nadi Suddhi, Sukha Poorvaka)
n 7:30 p.m. too 9 p.m. Saturday: Satsang — “Spirit of Fire: The Power of Jesus’ Name”
10 a.m. to noon Sunday: Pranayama Session ~ What is progress? What “advanced” means and feels like. Practice: Cooling breaths, brahmari. Review of practices and teachings.
Because the concentration will be on often-overlooked basics, the Breath = Life Workshop is suitable both for the experienced practitioner and for the energetic beginner.
Participants are asked to bring comfortable clothes, mat and cushion — and a notebook: Almost none of what will be presented can be found in books.
