HALIFAX —
In the span of six minutes in the third quarter Friday night, Line Mountain turned the game from a defensive struggle to a fast-paced second-half shoot out.
The Eagles used a 20-point third quarter to run away from Halifax, holding off a late charge from the Wildcats to win 33-14.
The Eagles (5-1, 4-1) found success running the ball in the first half despite scoring just one touchdown. The Eagles carried its running game over to the second half, scoring quick points, scoring three times on two plays or fewer.
Taking possession at the Wildcats’ 12-yard line, the Eagles gave the ball to Dillan Michael, who scored on the first play of the drive to give the Eagles a 13-0 lead.
Michael finished the game with 98 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, showing elusiveness and an ability to cut back against the grain.
After shutting down the Wildcats’ two-headed rushing attack of Rob Moretz and Joey Kaufman and forcing a punt, the Eagles found themselves ahead by three touchdowns, 20-0.
Cory Warford blasted through the defensive line and outran the Wildcats defense on a 32-yard touchdown with 6:23 left in the third quarter.
The Eagles defense quickly turned the ball back over to Codi Morris and company, as Jeremy Renn nabbed a pass that was thrown into tight coverage and returned the ball back to the Halifax 42.
Morris connected with an open Erik Smeltz one play later to take a 27-0 lead.
