SUNBURY —
Brett McCreary ran for 133 yards and a touchdown, while Kayleb Shirk added three rushing touchdowns to power Shikellamy to a 48-14 Heartland crossover win against Warrior Run on Friday night.
Shikellamy has won two straight and is now 3-3. Next week the Braves will look to make it three in a row when they visit Jersey Shore in a Division I matchup.
McCreary’s one touchdown run came with 13.4 seconds left in the opening quarter and gave Shikellamy a 14-7 lead.
Concerning his team’s rushing attack, Tilford said: “You’ve got to mention McCreary. That’s a guy who was injured for a lot of preseason camp, but we’re missing three fullbacks and he was the only other fullback who has taken a single rep. He ran the ball hard and he did a nice job holding the fort.
The momentum continued to swing the Braves’ way when Mark Blanchard fumbled the ball on the Defenders’ ensuing series early in the second quarter and Ernie Tyler recovered in the end zone.
Six plays later, including one that went for 24 yards on a rush from McCreary, Shirk scored on a 13-yard run to give Shikellamy a 20-7 lead.
The Braves also scored on their next series when Jean Turber ran for a 6-yard touchdown with 1 minute remaining before halftime.
Despite getting a 38-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Moser to Nick Rohm as time expired in the first half, things went from bad to worse for Warrior Run early in the third quarter when Shirk scored touchdowns on runs of 3 and 2 yards to put the game out of reach.
