RIVERSIDE — Council member John LaMotte has received all the signatures necessary to run for mayor of Riverside.
LaMotte needed the signatures of 10 fellow Democrats from the borough of Riverside to file his petition and appear on the ballot in the May primary. He said he had no trouble at all getting support.
“People in Riverside are always very nice,” said LaMotte, and are always willing to offer help for fellow residents.
Lamotte said he wanted to run to ensure a younger generation will take part in Riverside’s government. LaMotte is currently the youngest member of borough the council at age 44. “I just think that younger people need to be involved,” he said.
The current mayor, Dale Erb, does not plan to run for reelection this year. Erb is in his 70s.
According to LaMotte, Riverside resident John Domanski has filed a petition to run for one of three available council seats but he does not know who might run for the other two. The deadline to file a petition to appear on the election ballot is March 12.
