Danville School Board to Review Teacher Union Negotiations

DANVILLE — DANVILLE – The Danville school board will hold a special meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 5, at the Danville High School to review fact-finding results from their negotiations with the district’s teacher’s union. The state-appointed fact finder has drafted a report with recommendations for both sides on reaching a settlement. Should one or both parties decline the report’s suggestions, the report will become available to the public.

The teacher union’s contract expired at the end of June, 2011. Negotiations have been ongoing since January 2012.

After more than a decade, retiring art teacher Sandy Bruce has finally run out of wall space at Liberty Valley Intermediate School. That’s why her students’ final piece will be on the ceiling.

Bruce, who has been with the school district since 1987, has spent her last eleven years organizing legacy projects for Liberty Valley’s outgoing fifth-grade classes. These projects stay within the school to beautify it and as a memento of that class. This year’s project, Bruce’s final for the school, consisted of painting concentric circles on the art room’s ceiling tiles.
