Bowman's return lifts Central Columbia past Milton

MILTON — Cody Bowman returned an interception 60 yards for a game-clinching score as Central Columbia remained unbeaten with 21-8 victory at Milton on Friday night.

The Blue Jays (4-0) brought the pressure as defensive linemen Alex Shiber and Jake Klinger flushed Chappell out of the pocket and nearly sacked him. Chappell instead stayed on his feet and attempted to make the throw — only to have it go directly into Bowman’s hands. Bowman, for his part, only had to avoid a tackle at the 10 to finish the long return touchdown.

Milton (2-2), which made just two trips inside Central’s 20-yard line, scored its only touchdown from 32 yards out on a run by Jarred Fogelman 3:38 into the second quarter. Chappell’s conversion pass to Grant Wargo was also good and it gave the Black Panthers an 8-0 lead.

The lead didn’t last long as the Blue Jays scored on their two ensuing possessions in the quarter.

Thivierge first connected on a 24-yard pass to Adam Novak and after a four-and-out series by Milton, Central took a 14-8 lead on a one-yard run by Eric McCracken.
