Woman leads NJ police on high-speed chase

DELAWARE WATER GAP (AP) — Authorities say a Pennsylvania woman told them she led a bevy of New Jersey officers on a high-speed chase because she did not believe the men were really police.

Pennsylvania State Police arrested the 52-year-old Blakeslee, Pa., woman late Monday. She has been charged with second-degree eluding.

Police say the chase began along Route 80 West between Mount Olive, N.J., and the Delaware Water Gap Bridge.

New Jersey State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones says a trooper noticed the woman driving erratically and speeding. Several officers tried to get the woman to pull over before she was finally stopped on the toll plaza.

New Jersey State Police Sgt. Greg Redden says the woman told officers that she thought she was being chased by police impersonators.
