181-year-old inn destroyed by arson

DUNCANNON (AP) — A historic south-central Pennsylvania inn has been destroyed by arson.

The fire began at about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at the 181-year-old Amity Hall Inn in Watts Township, Perry County, which is a little over 100 miles west-northwest of Philadelphia. The inn has been closed for about 20 years.

State police say five men were caught running from the burning building and another two were being sought as of Tuesday afternoon.

Duncannon Fire Chief Byron Worner says the building was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. He says he wasn't going to send firefighters inside because that would be endangering lives to save an abandoned building.
