Valley to contribute $100K for fire truck

VALLEY TWP. -- Valley Township will be contributing $100,000 toward the purchase of a new $350,000 Valley Township Fire Company rescue pumper.

The township supervisors approved the contribution at their meeting Wednesday night.

This is a one-time donation, said Fire Chief Mike Kull who is also supervisors' vice chairman.

The supervisors also moved .5 mills of real estate tax from the equipment fund to the fire fund so the fire company will receive more money for operating expenses, which are on the rise.

The adjusting of this distribution of taxes to the fire fund will not result in a tax increase. The supervisors previously announced taxes would remain the same in the 2009 budget.

The township fire company plans to sign the final contract to order the rescue pumper in January.

The truck, which will take a year to build and be delivered in January 2010, will replace a 1997 truck that probably will be sold to a used apparatus dealer.

The new truck will cost about $350,000.

In addition to the township's contribution, the fire company plans to use money it has, money from its relief association and a state low-interest loan to pay for the truck.
