Jury doesn't buy man's story

GREENSBURG (AP) — A western Pennsylvania man has been convicted of illegal gambling despite a defense that the poker games he organized require a high degree of skill.

Lawrence Burns says he’s disappointed in Thursday’s verdict by a Westmoreland County jury and plans to appeal. The 65-year-old Derry Township man acknowledged organizing the Texas Hold ’Em tournaments for profit but maintained the skill involved made the practice lawful.

District Attorney John Peck says he doesn’t plan to seek jail time.
