NORTHUMBERLAND — Mrs. Leshinskie’s second grade class at Sunbury Christian Academy has been studying animals. For “show-and-tell” the students brought in earthworms. They looked at the earthworms very closely with magnifying glasses to see the worms’ rings and bristles, and to see how they moved. The class also did an experiment to see whether or not an earthworm can live in water. After a weekend in a container filled with water, the earthworm was still alive. The class let the worm join the others in the soil. The students put black paper around the bottom of a container, so the worms would think they were underground and dig tunnels.
The class also learned about the beaver. Students put baggies on their hands and placed them in water to feel what it would be like to have webbed feet. The class also enjoyed reading animal books while holding an animal puppet.
