SUNBURY — The Shikellamy school board has appointed two Shikellamy graduates, Jeff Walter and C. Scott Karpinski, to vacancies.
The appointments were made during a special meeting last week. They replace Terry Marshall and Kimberly Markunas, who resigned.
Walter is a 1991 Shikellamy graduate, and Karpinski graduated in 1978. Both are active community members.
Walter is director of the Otolaryngology Vestibular and Balance Center at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, and an associate faculty member in the Department of Physical Therapy at Misericordia University. In 1996, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin, earning of bachelor of science degree in physical therapy. He also attained competency certification in vestibular rehabilitation and vestibular function test interpretation. In 2009, Walter received his doctorate in physical therapy from the University of Scranton.
He serves as president of the Sunbury YMCA board. During his high school career, he was a state wrestling champion in 1990 and 1991 and won a national championship for the University of Wisconsin in 1996. He served as Shikellamy’s head wrestling coach from 1999 through 2003.
Karpinski is sales manager for a privately held company with operations in Lebanon and Camp Hill. He attended Juniata College and Susquehanna University, where he majored in accounting. He has lived in the district for more than 40 years.
He is a member of numerous professional and personal organizations. He served more than 20 years as a football coach, ending his coaching career at the varsity level for Shikellamy.
Karpinski and his wife, Maribeth, have four children and three grandchildren.
