NEW BERLIN —Dharmashakti, yoga instructor and award-winning musician, will be touring 11 U.S. cities this fall, bringing together ancient Indian forms with modern American jazz and experimental sounds in the traditional yoga chanting practice known as Kirtan.
Dharmashakti will bring new chants and new sounds together with philosophical texts from around the world to create a completely new kind of Kirtan.
The Integral Yoga Center of Pennsylvania in New Berlin will host the Dharmashakti at 7 p.m. Friday. This participatory yoga chanting event is a rare opportunity for central Pennsylvanians to experience the rich tradition of bhakti yoga. Bhakti yoga is sometimes called “yoga of the heart.” It helps to open the heart and emotions to the attunement with the subtle divinity that dwells within everyone and everything.
In the ashrams of India, the home of yoga, it is much more commonly practiced than the postures of hatha yoga, which are so popular in America today.
The Integral Yoga Center is located at 428 Market St. in New Berlin. After hosting hatha yoga classes for nearly seven years, the center is planning to host more seminars, retreats and weekend satsangs. This appearance of the nationally acclaimed Dharmashakti begins this expansion of yoga events.
