BLOOMSBURG — Although the modern country band Lady Antebellum is fairly new to the country scene, its accomplishments rival that of a seasoned band.
The trio has performed on the legendary Grand Ole Opry as well as being the opening act on Martina McBride’s 2008 arena tour. In addition to winning critics, fans and several awards along the way, Lady Antebellum has opened performances for Kenny Chesney, Tim McGraw, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift and Alan Jackson, to name just a few.
“I was brought up to always believe in yourself and to follow your dreams. And although I did that when the band first started out, I never would have imagined we would have achieved this amount of success so fast in our career,” said Hillary Scott, vocalist for the band.
Lady Antebellum, who will be sharing the stage in Bloomsburg with fifth-season “American Idol” contestant Kellie Pickler, first came into existence in 2006 when three friends — and talented musicians — decided to form a band. Joining Scott are Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood.
“Working with the guys and touring with them is a blast. We always have a great time when we are out on the road, and we all realize how fortunate we all are to be doing this for a living,” Scott said during a recent phone interview.
What has made the band so popular can be found in their music and style, which combines parts of contemporary country, R&B; and good old classic country.
“There is nothing like being in front of a crowd of people who are spending their time to come and hear us play,” Scott said. “Our shows are pretty much family friendly too, so you’ll see older people as well as kids and families. For our show in Bloomsburg, we’ll sing some of our older songs, some new ones and just make sure everyone has an amazing time.”
