Pickler of ‘American Idol’ tops bill at fair

By Jeffrey Allen Federowicz

BLOOMSBURG — Although she didn’t always impress the judges on “American Idol,” Kellie Pickler is sure to attract an energetic crowd for her upcoming performance at the Bloomsburg Fair.

“I love traveling around, doing shows and seeing cool parts of America I would not have had the chance to see,” Pickler said. “I am excited about coming to Bloomsburg and have the chance to sing my songs and have a great time. It will be fun.”

Joining Pickler on stage will be the country trio Lady Antebellum, providing audience members with twice the entertainment for the price of one ticket.

“I am lucky to be sharing the same stage with the folks from Lady Antebellum,” she said. “I enjoy their music and really like their style.”

Pickler picked up fans and attention, as well as fame, during her appearance on the fifth season of “American Idol” where she finished in sixth place. Although she has become almost as popular for being stereotyped as the ditzy blonde, it is her vibrant voice that keeps her going.

“So far in my career I have experienced so much greatness and joy,” Pickler said during a recent phone interview. “It still amazes me the number of fans that enjoy my music. They are so supportive.”

Her stint on “American Idol” was followed up by her debut album, “Small Town Girl,” which became certified gold in just three months. The album has produced three top 15 singles, including the popular “Red High Heels.” Another song from that album, “I Wonder,” was a personal accomplishment that she wrote for her mother. When Pickler sang the song at the 2007 CMA Awards, it was one of the highlights of the evening.

“Music is my life,” she said. “It just represents so much about me and my life.”

The 22-year-old has been keeping busy the past few months finishing up her second album as well as being on tour with Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts.

“This has been such a wild ride, all the places I have been to and people I have meet,” she said. “It’s exciting to see what will happen next.”
