HERSHEY — If you are looking for child-engaging and colorful family activities that are not too far away, look no further than Hershey Gardens’ popular Butterfly Festival on Sat. July 19 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The festival is set in and around the Children’s Garden, and is included in the general admission price.
Rain or shine, there will be opportunities to learn about butterflies and their lifecycle, share butterfly crafts and games and get everyone involved in a scavenger hunt. Visitors will also enjoy a performance of the “Just Wingin’ It” magic show, and the “Puppet Patch Players.”
Currently in its 11th season, the outdoor Butterfly House continues to be the Gardens’ most popular attraction. Featuring 350 North American butterflies, representing nearly 25 varieties, the Butterfly House has nectar plants for food and host plants for egg laying and caterpillar feeding. The entire lifecycle of the butterfly can be viewed within the house.
“The Butterfly House has been a tremendous success,” notes Craig George, director. “This is a great event for anyone who enjoys butterflies or wants to learn more about them — especially kids.”
The Butterfly House, located in the Children’s Garden at Hershey Gardens, is open daily through September 28. The Gardens are open daily. June through August hours are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Admission fees are $10 for adults, $9 for seniors (ages 62+) and $6 for juniors (ages 3 to 12). Members and children under 3 are admitted free.
