MIFFLINBURG — The Elias Center for the Performing Arts will host another in its series of free events this Saturday Karen Nogle and Mark Tomeo will perform holiday music beginning at 7 p.m.
Nogle was born and raised in Mifflinburg and especially loves being able to “come home” to entertain. She sang all the way through school, while growing up and after graduation, and singing at weddings for friends and family. She then entered a competition at Knoebel’s amusement park which led her to more than 20 years of performing with Dean McNett and McNett Country.
She has since recorded two solo CDs and now plays with a local original country pop band called Pages of Paul. She also is front and center with Blue River Spell, a jazz and contemporary group of musicians.
Mark Tomeo grew up near Boston, Mass., and has played guitar continuously since the seventh grade. He learned his basic technique from Boston-area folksingers and later went on to play pedal steel guitar and dobro in Grammy-nominated Rubber Rodeo, an ’80s band on Polygram Records.
In Pennsylvania, he has played and recorded with the Badlees, Davy Jones, Neon Cactus, Michi Egger and other regional musicians. He presently holds the steel guitar chair in Pages of Paul and enjoys working as Nogle’s accompanist in their duo performances.
