NORTHUMBERLAND — Regional artists have a new place to display and sell their works with the opening of a new consignment gallery.
The Bare Metal Gallery at 79 Duke St. is envisioned by owner Dave Snyder as a place where artists in any medium can exhibit their works.
“I know many artists in the area need a place to show their works to prospective buyers,” said Snyder. Bare Metal will be such a place, he hopes, with plenty of walls space to display works and his staff to manage sales and management. With a work area under the same roof, shipping works to buyers won’t be a problem, either.
The building was formerly the Duke Street Hotel, Snyder said, and it most recently was a rooming house for transient workers at a local industry. He purchased the building two years ago, converting the upstairs into two apartments and the first floor into the gallery.
“There is an overwhelming amount of talent in this area,” said Snyder, a tax accountant who enjoys collecting, owning and viewing art created in the region. “I’d like this to be a place for artists who have no other venue for their work for some reason.”
The Bare Metal Gallery’s grand opening will take place Saturday from 4-11 p.m., with a ribbon cutting set for 4 p.m. A reception for many of the artists will take place from 7-9 p.m.
Works by artists from Selinsgrove, Benton, Washingtonville, Paxinos, as well as from Allentown and York are currently on display, in media ranging from traditional paintings to photography, metal sculpture and fiber arts.
The gallery will be open Thursday 4-9 p.m., Friday 4-10 p.m. and Saturday 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call 473-2273.
