Well, all of a sudden it seems like there’s a lot of music going on, at least this week. I guess it sort of comes in waves. One week it’s slim pickings and the next it’s crazy. This is one of the crazy ones.
For instance, tonight there are three events worth noting. The Burgess-Mitchell-Seal Trio has its first gig at a new venue in Bloomsburg, when they appear at La Fontana, right on the corner of Main and Market streets at the square from 6-9 p.m. The band had a regular gig at another place in Bloom for a couple of years, but a change in ownership put an end to that. Now they’ve (hopefully) found a new home at La Fontana.

Also in Bloomsburg tonight, John Sweeney and his blues band, the Barn Cats, will be playing on Main Street at the corner of Miller Avenue from 6-8 p.m. as part of Bloomsburg’s Oktoberfest/Art Walk.

And the Community Arts Center on Fourth Street in Williamsport is the location of what should be a great show, a Celebration of the Life of Susan Bacchieri, with showcase performances by no less than 13 regional acts. Susan recently lost her battle with cancer, leaving behind her children and long-time companion Andy Barnhart. Among those performing in tribute to Susan, who was the unofficial photographer for the Billtown Blues Association for many years, are the Blind Chitlin Kahunas, Key of V and Lumpy Gravy. The show starts at 6 p.m.

This just in. “Sir Rod,” a Rod Stewart impersonator, will have a show at the Sunbury Elks #267 Club, 26 S. Second St., on Saturday night from 8-11. Tickets at the door are $10 and snacks are included.

While I’m thinking about it, the Burgess-Mitchell-Seal Trio’s Wednesday gig in Lewisburg has moved from the Parkview to Puirseil’s Irish Pub, one door up Sixth Street. The show is still 6-9 p.m., Puirseil’s has a variety of food and drink, and there is no cover charge. Call 523-6000 for reservations.

Back to this week. Tomorrow (Friday), Leo Armbruster and Steve Mitchell will perform at Mya’s Cafe on Market Street in Lewisburg starting at 6:30.

Here in Sunbury, Jim McClinsky, Sunbury’s singing mailman, will be at McGuigan’s Public House at the corner of Third and Market from 6-8 p.m.

The King Street Coffeehouse at the Savoy, 221 Front St. in Northumberland is open tonight, with music from folkie Eric Sundberg, jazz and blues guitarist Mark Tomeo and the sizzling swing music of Sink or Swing. The music starts at 7 and runs through 10 or 10:30. Dinner is available starting at 6, and desserts and drinks are also available a la carte. Cover is $6.

Fiddler woman Beverley Conrad will be at Penn’s Tavern on Saturday night from 6-9 p.m. Call 286-2007 for reservations. The Original Sinners will be at Puirseil’s Irish Pub on Sixth Street in Lewisburg starting at 7 p.m. These Original Sinners include Leo Armbruster, Bob Albin and Glenn Crook. Meanwhile, up at Ye Olde Meeting Place on Route 405 north of Milton, Willie Jack and the Northern Light will hold forth starting at about 9:30.

The New Familiars, an “Americana Roots Rock” band from North Carolina, will be at the Elk Creek Ale Works and Cafe on Route 45 in Millheim at 5 p.m. Sunday evening.

Roseanne Barr seeks Green Party presidential nod
WASHINGTON — Roseanne Barr said Thursday she's running for the Green Party's presidential nomination — and it's no joke. The actress-comedian said in a statement that she's a longtime supporter of the party and looks forward to working with people who share her values. She said the two major parties aren't serving the American people.
