Boy, let a guy go away for a week of vacation and all sorts of things happen. I came back to nearly 200 e-mails waiting for me, as well as several phone messages. No smoke signals, though — I guess they blew away. Anyway, here’s what’s happening with live music this week.
***
On Friday night, Philadelphia blueswoman Deb Callahan will be at the Bullfrog Brewery on Fourth Street in Williamsport at 10 p.m., and on Saturday night, she’s at the Elk Creek Cafe and Ale Works on Route 45 in Millheim at 8 p.m. Deb’s the real deal, so see her if you can.
***
Also tomorrow, Royal Benson holds court at the Hilltop, on Route 642 between Mausdale and Mooresburg, starting at 10 p.m.
***
Lots going on Saturday. The Midlife Cowboys will be at the Pumpkin Festival at Rohrbach’s Farm Market on Route 487 near Catawissa with three performances at noon, 2 and 4 p.m.
***
Greg Burgess is solo at Penn’s Tavern, Route 147 south of Sunbury, from 6-9 p.m. on Saturday. Phone 286-2007 for reservations. Also, DePotorLand is at Cherry Alley Cafe, 21 N. Third St., Lewisburg, from 7-9, with a string of funny and topical tunes.
***
Other Saturday entertainment includes blues band Dirty Nickels at Ye Olde Meeting Place, Route 405 north of Milton, at 9:30, and at the Donald Heiter Community Center, 10 N. Fifth St., Lewisburg, Maureen Vivino will be calling the monthly contra dance to the music of Total Hip Replacement from 7:30-10:30. Admission is $8 for adults and $5 for students.
***
At Puirseil’s Irish Pub, South Sixth Street in Lewisburg, they’ll be celebrating “Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day” on Saturday, featuring music by Lizard Creek at 7 p.m.
***
And on Sunday, Gift Troutman & Gift will be at Skeeter’s BBQ in Shamokin Dam from 5-8 p.m. with some great music from seven decades.
