It’s the holiday weekend coming up, and I guess since so many folks will be enjoying reunions, barbecues, picnics and parties, the pickin’s are a bit slim this week. But never let it be said that quantity trumps quality. There’s still some good music to be heard in the next week or so.

Tomorrow night, DePotorLand is out at the Elk Creek cafe and Aleworks in Millheim, a good stretch of the leg out Route 45, but a worthwhile trip for some music, food and brew. DePotorLand is Joe DeChristopher, George Potor and Fred Strickland, with some oldies and plenty of topical songs. The guys are on from 7:30-9:30. Danville’s Pine Barn Inn features the Dave Miller Band at 7 p.m. tomorrow. Call 275-2071 for reservations.

Also tomorrow evening, the fantastic Lipsmackin’ Blues Band makes a rare appearance at Front Street Station, Northumberland, on the terrace from 7-10 p.m. with some lipsmackin’ blues and jazz. $1 cover.

The only show I know of on Independence Day is Tonedogz, performing at Ye Olde Meeting Place on Route 405 between Milton and Watsontown starting about 9:30 p.m.

On Sunday morning, you can do Brunch on the Point at Shikellamy State Park, sponsored by the Friends of Shikelllamy State Park, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with brunch catered by Mya’s Cafe of Lewisburg. Music this month is by Nate Myers and Tom Rosencrans, joined by Jina Rosencrans, Tom’s wife, on sweet harmonies.

On Sunday evening, Earl Pickens and the Band Named Thunder will be at Skeeter’s BBQ in Shamokin Dam from 5-8 p.m.

Next Thursday, Friends of Shikellamy State Park will sponsor the second community concert at the Shikellamy Overlook, featuring Nate Myers and the Aces, from 6-9 p.m. There will be locally produced wines and cheeses, as well as other goodies.

The 10th annual OATS Bluegrass Festival gets started this evening and runs through Sunday at the Benton Rodeo Grounds, with a great lineup of bluegrass music each day. Benton is about 16 miles north of Bloomsburg on Route 487, and it’s well worth the drive if you like bluegrass. You can check out the daily line-ups at www.oatsfestival.com.

Next weekend, the Briggs Farm Blues Festival in Nescopeck takes place Friday and Saturday afternoons and evenings. The music starts around 4 each day and runs through 10 p.m. This is a really neat little festival that attracts some major talents, including Alexis P. Suter, Tom Larsen and Louisiana Red, as well as regional favorites like Nate Myers and the Aces and V.E. Paul. For more info, go to www.briggsfarm.com or call 379-2003.
