LEWISBURG —
In a gala collaborative concert by the Susquehanna Valley Chorale (SVC) and the Williamsport Symphony Orchestra (WSO) on Oct. 5, at the Weis Center for the Performing Arts, Bucknell University, artwork of regional high school artists will be on display.
The SVC invites high school artists to create individually, or within a group, an original work designed to depict the music the chorale will perform.
Featured is the six movement musical work “Dona Nobis Pacem (Give Us Peace)” by Ralph Vaughan Williams, being performed in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the AmerIcan Civil War. American poet Walt Whitman’s “Civil War Poems” highlight the work.
Guidelines require artists (grades 9-12) to consider the words and music in depicting visually the essence of a portion of the music. First, second and third place monetary prizes will be awarded.
All entering artists will be concert guests of the chorale, and winners will be introduced to the audience by SVC conductor William Payn. All artwork is due Oct. 1.
For contest guidelines, YouTube excerpts, and lyrics, go to www.svcmusic.org, or contact Jean Hormell, 847-0254, jeanhormell@yahoo.com or Kelly Beard, SVC executive manager, 547-0455, svc@svcmusic.org.
