Motorsports (Area notebook): Titles to be decided at Selinsgrove Speedway

SELINSGROVE — The final points race of the season for Selinsgrove Speedway's weekly divisions of 358 sprint cars, late models, pro stocks and roadrunners takes place Saturday at 7.

In the 358 sprint car division, three-time winner Blane Heimbach of Selinsgrove has a 170-point lead over one-time winner T.J. Stutts of Liverpool. Five-time winner and defending champion Pat Cannon of Etters trails Heimbach by 315 points.

One scenario has Stutts clinching the championship if he wins Saturday's feature and Heimbach fails to finish 19th or better. Heimbach is seeking his third career title.

Jeff Rine of Danville, an eight-time winner this year, leads Selinsgrove's Jim Yoder by 140 points. Rine is looking for his fifth consecutive late model title and seventh overall. Yoder's hopes of a career first championship are very much alive entering this weekend's race. One possibility, for example, has Yoder clinching the championship if he wins the race and Rine fails to finish 12th or better.

Defending champion and eight-time winner A.J. Hoffman of Richfield has already clinched his second straight championship in the pro stock division. Hoffman has a 386-point lead over three-time winner Jason Smith of Williamsport.

In the roadrunner division, if four-time winner Bob Bussey of Northumberland takes the green flag in the rescheduled Roadrunner 20, he'll win the title over defending champion and three-time winner Ricky Bender of Jolliett.

Race fans are invited to join Selinsgrove Speedway representatives and participating race teams at the 33rd annual Market Street Festival in downtown Selinsgrove on Saturday beginning at 9. The speedway will have a race car display at the corner of Market Street and University Avenue until about 3 p.m.

The 13th annual Foss Jewelers Late Model Open has been rescheduled for Oct. 8. The late model division's marquee event pays $5,000 to win the 30-lap feature. The pro stocks and roadrunners will also be on the card.

OUTLAW READY: Williams Grove Speedway will present its final Outlaw tuneup tonight along with a complete program for the 358s plus a makeup feature for the 358s.

The Outlaw tuneup night begins with time trials for the sprint car division to allow for a final opportunity to prepare for the upcoming National Open weekend, which will be sanctioned by the World of Outlaws. The feature event will pay $4,000 to win.

With two features on tap in the 358 division, the race for the championship could tighten significantly. Defending champion Pat Cannon currently leads Logan Schuchart by 230 points. The makeup feature for the 358s is the result of a rainout from Sept. 4 after the feature lineup had been set.
