SELINSGROVE —
Leave it to Mother Nature to spoil big weekend plans.
The highly anticipated, first-ever visit to Selisngrove Speedway by the World of Outlaws late model series never got on track — literally — as a heavy rain storm hit the speedway just after 5:30 on Sunday night, forcing the cancellation of the event.
The event will not be made up and the track is issuing refunds either at the track or via mail.
Before the rains came, a large crowd filed into the speedway as 40 late models had signed in for the race which was to culminate with a 50-lap feature.
“It really stinks for Charlie (Paige, track promoter) and his staff that we were rained out,” said WoO late model series director Tim Christman. “It is nice to come to a place where the people are so excited to see an event. We had a lot of competitors in the pits, but we look forward to coming back for next year and having a successful event.”
The race was supposed to be the sixth time in track history that the World of Outlaws organization had sanctioned an event. The previous five events were all WoO sprint car shows with the locals holding a 4-1 edge in wins.

There is something about homework, at one time or another, that all of us dreaded, especially if there was homework over the holidays. That wasn't the case for Selinsgrove's Blane Heimbach this past winter.
