Freshman leads Selinsgrove past Milton

SELINSGROVE — Juvan Batts has had more long touchdowns called back on penalties than he has scored, so why should Friday night’s game at Milton have been any different?

After giving the Seals the lead with an exciting 13-yard touchdown run on the game’s first possession, things were looking up for the 5-foot-7, 156-pound freshman tailback.

But, after Milton pulled to within 7-6, Batts saw another great run go for naught.

On the first play from scrimmage after Jarred Fogelman scored for the Black Panthers, Batts broke several taackles, skirted the right side and broke free down the sideline for an apparent 57-yard TD. Once again, Batts was the victim of a holding penalty and the Seals were eventually forced to punt.

Nevertheless, Batts got the last laugh with yet another brilliant TD run, albeit for only six yards, and the Seals survived a wild 14-12 victory in a key Heartland Athletic Conference Division I contest at Alumni Field.

Batts scored the decisive TD with a minute and a half left in the third quarter when he took a toss to the right and found a single linebacker between he and the end zone. That linebacker is still looking for Batts, who made a move and was handing the ball to the referee before the defender knew what happened.
