WILLIAMSPORT —
Matt Metzger got right to the point when talking to his Selinsgrove squad prior to taking the field against Central Columbia in overtime Wednesday.
“Score and your season continues,” he said, “lose and it’s all over.”
The Seals got the message. Just 14 seconds into OT Alicia Torruella took a perfect pass from Alli Cover and drilled the ball past Central keeper Paige Seigrist to propel them past the top-seeded Blue Jays, 1-0, at Ken Robbins Stadium. Selinsgrove (17-2) earned a berth in Saturday’s District 4 Class AA final against Danville, a 6-1 winner over Athens.
“It wasn’t any major change in strategy other than executing perfectly what we were trying to do the entire match,” the Seals head coach said. “We seemed to exhibit more intensity — even though it was only for 14 seconds — than we did in either half. Our game plan was to attack the outside but we got jammed in the middle and prevented us from really running what we wanted to run.”
