WILLIAMSPORT —
The scoreboard showed time ticking away at less than a minute to play at Lancer Community Stadium in Loyalsock when Danville’s Shayne Riley chased down a through ball between the boxes.
With the ball rolling toward him with a 1-on-1 look and potential shot moments away, Lewisburg freshman goalie Logan Cho ran out of the goal as quickly as he could and scooped up the ball.
Riley turned around in frustration as Cho made the play and Lewisburg’s fans cheered loudly. About 40 seconds later, the final horn went off and the Green Dragons celebrated their 1-0 district playoff win on the field Wednesday afternoon.
The District 4 Class AA semifinal win was redemption for Lewisburg against their Danville rivals. The Green Dragons tied the Ironmen early in the season 1-all in double overtime before losing 1-0 later in the season. Those regular-season losses, while tough to swallow, gave Lewisburg an idea of what to expect against Danville with all the marbles at stake.
“We knew if we could control that high pressure that they brought us, if these boys could possess the ball like they did (Wednesday), we’d be OK,” Lewisburg coach Skip Kratzer said. “We just needed to find that one (goal) and (Nick) Janesch did that. That was just as pretty a goal as you’d ever want to see.”
