Winnie throws perfect game

HUGHESVILLE -- Dan Winnie has thrown some great games in his career.

On Thursday, though, he was perfect.

Winnie threw a six-inning perfect game against Hughesville as Danville won 10-0 in five innings.

Winnie struck out eight and added a two-run homer in the third inning. The defense was flawless behind him, not committing an error and Hughesville was unable to get a runner to first.

Anthony Renz and Corey Gallagher also had homers for Danville (7-3). Cody Herman added three RBIs.

Hughesville drops to 4-5.

n Shamokin/Mt. Carmel 3, Milton 2

SHAMOKIN -- A two run first helped Shamokin/Mt. Carmel get by Milton to pick up the SVALL win.

Mike Domaleski pitched the first six innings, fanning seven batters while scattering three hits. Following Domaleski's dominant performance, Mike Statzcavage entered in the seventh to get the save.

Mark Minning led the offense for Shamokin/Mt. Carmel (5-6) with double and two singles. Milton is 4-6.

    BELLEVILLE -- The East Juniata boys basketball program has been in existence since the school opened in 1955, but the 2012 team has done what those previous teams couldn't. On Saturday East Juniata crushed Belleville Mennonite in a nonleague contest 62-34 and in doing so the Tigers set the school record by winning their 17th game of the season.

    JERSEY SHORE — With the game tied at 32 at the half, the Selinsgrove boys basketball term went on a big run in the third quarter to open up the game and take a 65-56 Heartland Athletic Conference Division I win over Jersey Shore on Wednesday.

    MILTON -- After several years of wrestling Shikellamy in the District 4 Class AAA Duals final, Shawn Weaver had seen plenty of reversals on championship day in Milton. Not the reversals that give a wrestler two points, but the reversals of outcomes from the regular season to the district tournament.

    MIFFLINBURG -- Mifflinburg coach Dave Murray said the decision this season to seriously upgrade the schedule was made by the wrestlers. But facing the likes of Blair Academy (N.J.), ranked No. 1 in the nation, and Germantown Academy in the National High School Wrestling Coaches Association Festival in Brodheadsville earlier this month could certainly adversely affect the Wildcats' seeding for the District 4 Class AA Duals Tournament.

But the Eagles are breathing a little easier today, having improved from 4-2 to 8-2 with a 4-0 record in the five-team Line Mountain Duals Tournament.
