HUMMLESTOWN —
Mallory Fortenbaugh wasn’t part of the Greenwood team that played for a district championship last year.
But the freshman forward made certain the Wildcats would get another chance at the title this season.
Fortenbaugh notched a hat trick, scoring every goal in Greenwood’s 3-2 win over Hamburg in a District 3 Class AA semifinal Wednesday at Lower Dauphin Middle School.
With the win, second-seeded Greenwood (17-2-1) advances to Saturday’s title game against Oley Valley (19-4) at Milton Hershey H.S. at 12:30 p.m.
Oley Valley, the No. 4 seed, defeated ninth-seeded Donegal 1-0 on Wednesday.
Last year Greenwood lost to Palmyra in the championship match.
To watch the Wildcats on Wednesday, it was obvious they weren’t focused on any match but the one against No. 6 Hamburg.
“I thought we started the game right away, and then we kind of got away from what we wanted to do,” Greenwood coach Kent Houser said. “And I give Hamburg credit for that — they kind of got us out of our game and they were really taking it to us there.”
