High school roundup: Black Panthers near tourney berth

WRESTLING

MILTON -- The Milton Black Panthers are close to being back in the District 4 playoffs after their 40-33 victory over Shikellamy in a Heartland Athletic Conference Division I match on Thursday.

Milton (7-7, 3-3 HAC-I), needs to beat South Williamsport on Saturday in order to punch its ticket into the District 4 duals for the first time in the last several years.

Colton Showers (132), Ryan Preisch (160), Donald English (170), Jarred Fogelman (182) and Tylor Moyer (220) all had pins for the Black Panthers.

Shikellamy (1-8, 1-5), which won't qualify for the district duals for the first time ever, got pins from Evan Witmer (120), Jacob Hummel (138) and Matt Neff (145).

n Mifflinburg 53,

Williamsport 27

MIFFLINBURG -- The Wildcats sealed up the HAC-I title by getting seven pins and a technical fall in the match.

Earning the pins for Mifflinburg (13-2, 7-0) were Cole Walter (120), Alan Miller (138), Eric Dock (152), Ty Walter (160), John Panako (182), Aaron Shrawder (195) and Nazar Mironenko (285).

n Selinsgrove 55,

Shamokin 18

COAL TOWNSHIP -- A pair of pins from Tim Laubscher at 140 and Eddy Try at 145 gave the Seals 46 points in the match as they cruised to the HAC-I win.

Also getting pins for Selinsgrove (11-7, 4-2 HAC-I) were Eric Eaton at 170 and Austin Lewis at 195.

n Jersey Shore 51,

Midd-West 20

MIDDLEBURG -- After a pin from Chris Sheaffer (126) and a technical fall from Zach Heeter (132) the Mustangs took a 14-6 lead, but from there it was almost all Bulldogs 15-2, 5-2) and they went on for the HAC-I win. Jacob Heintzelman had the other pin for Midd-West (9-17, 1-5 HAC-I).

BOYS BASKETBALL

n Greenwood 55,

East Juniata 41

COCOLAMUS -- The Tigers faded down the stretch and only scored six points in the final quarter to 19 points for the Widcats as Greenwood took the Tri-Valley League win.

Josh Ferguson had 11 points and 11 rebounds for Greenwood (14-1, 9-0) while Colton Fortenbaugh led the way with 19 points and Grant Lesh added 12 rebounds.

Nick Lorenz and Bailey Coder both had 16 points for East Juniata (12-4, 6-3).

n Newport 55,

Line Mountain 47

NEWPORT -- Seventeen points apiece from Jared Myers and Zach Cree gave the Buffaloes the TVL win.

Cole Rickert had 16 points and Bill Breinich had 14 for Line Mountain (3-14, 1-8 TVL). Rickert added 11 rebounds, nine steals and six assists.

n Lourdes Regional 62,

Williams Valley 54

COAL TOWNSHIP -- Only four players scored for the Red Raiders in the Schuylkill League game, but three of them were in double figures as Lourdes took the victory.

Zack Chesney hit seven 3-pointers and led Lourdes (9-7 overall) with 28 points and seven rebounds. Anthony Pennypacker and Zack Oquendo added 16 and 14 points, respectively.

n Northumberland Chr. 56,

Williamsport H.S. 24

LEWISBURG -- Damian Gittens, Ryan King and Dan Severn scored 10 points apiece to lead the Warriors to the nonleague win. Northumberland Christian improves to 17-5.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

n Williamsport 54,

Milton 31

WILLIAMSPORT -- Dana Kyle scored 10 points against the Millionaires to provide the lone highlight for the Black Panthers in the nonleague game. Milton falls to 4-11.

n Northumberland Chr. 50,

Williamsport H.S. 24

LEWISBURG -- Alyssa Wesner had 20 points and Shelby Derr chipped in 16 in the Warriors' nonleague win. Dorothyann Reich added 17 rebounds for Northumberland Christian (15-6).
